Lasercutting Service
Tired of cutting fabric by hand? Our fast, affordable service handles the cutting for you, giving you more time for other important tasks
How it Works
01
Submit your Project
Submit your digital pattern for a free, quick quote. If you only have a physical sewing pattern or haven’t started on a design yet, we can create a digital version in-house for you!
02
Choose Your Fabric
Choose from our current stock of materials or feel free to provide/send your own. We’ll guide you through the process to make sure you choose the right fabric for your project.
03
Lock in Your Design
We’ll do a quick test run and either send you a few pictures or a physical prototype before moving forward.
04
Let the Laser Do the Rest
Once everything is set, we’ll precisely cut your fabric and ship it to you asap!
Sealed Edges
Sealed edges are a unique benefit of laser cutting synthetic materials – the laser melts the cut edge, which prevents the fabric from fraying. This also applies to cotton blend fabrics if there is enough synthetic content!
Complex Geometry
Tricky designs are quick work for the laser – thanks to the tiny laser beam, it’s like cutting with a knife as thin as a hair. This opens up new possibilities that aren’t achievable with traditional cutting methods.
What sizes can you cut?
Our laser cutter features a cutting area of 140 cm (55″) in width and 90 cm (36″) in height, which makes us able to cut fabric rolls in full-width. We also have the option to continuously feed the fabric since our laser has an infinite length design, enabling us to cut pieces far larger than our bed size allows.
What materials can you cut?
We can laser cut almost any fabric we stock, including Cordura, Apparel Fabric, Mesh, Foams, Thermoplastic Composite Plates (Tegris / Curv), Leather and more!
For fabrics you provide, there are a couple of important notes:
We can’t cut materials with unknown or unclear content because they might release harmful gases during the cutting process. If you’re unsure about the fabric’s composition or coating, we’ll need a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before we can proceed. You can usually obtain this from the manufacturer.
I only have paper sewing patterns
If you only have paper sewing patterns, we offer a few options to digitize them for laser cutting:
1. Mail-In Service: You can send your paper patterns to our location in Austria and we’ll digitize them for you in-house.
2. DIY Scanning: If your pattern pieces are small enough, you can scan them yourself using a standard home printer and save them as a PDF. We will guide you through the process on how to correctly set up your scanner for the most accurate results.
3. Professional Scanning: For larger patterns, visit a local print shop that offers large-scale scanning services.
I have no sewing pattern yet
Got an idea but no sewing pattern yet? No problem! We can create a custom digital sewing pattern from scratch using your specs, sketches, or pictures. We’ll design it in the .dxf file format, making it easy to edit on the fly and ready for laser cutting.
Is there anything specific that needs to be considered for preparing the file for laser cutting?
When preparing your file for laser cutting, there are several important factors to consider:
File Format:
We typically accept vector file formats such as .dxf or .svg.
Line Thickness:
All cutting lines should be set to hairline or 0.001 mm
Seam allowance and other details:
Your file should only have the lines where you want cuts – don’t forget to include seam allowances. Make sure that alignment marks or any additional details are placed outside the cutting lines or within the seam allowance. If possible, use fillets on sharp edges to get cleaner cuts and to speed up the cutting time.
Consider the Kerf:
Kerf is the width of the material removed by the laser during the cutting process. Depending on the material, the Kerf can vary, typically ranging from 0.1mm to 0.3mm. Generally, this is not important for simple designs or seam allowances, since you will never notice these small differences. In case you do have intricate details where the Kerf gets important, you can account for it by adjusting the dimensions of your design accordingly (scaling – we can get you the exact Kerf value for your fabric once we do some test cuts).
Submit Parts in one File:
All the parts you want cut should be in one file. Keep them separate from each other (no nesting), and we’ll handle the nesting process via software to minimize fabric waste.
Can you engrave fabrics?
We can engrave fabrics! While not all materials are suitable for engraving, if you pick one from our current stock, we can do a quick test run to ensure you’re satisfied with the results. If you want to use your own fabric, just send us a small sample at no cost, and we’ll run some tests to see how it turns out.
Whats your lead time?
Lead times vary depending on your project size – usually a few days for smaller runs and up to a few weeks for larger ones. For bigger projects, we offer the option to send cut pieces in batches as we reach specific quantities, so you can start working on your project sooner.
How much do you charge?
We typically charge a minimum fee of €34.99 per project + material costs if you don’t provide your own. This covers a full 140 x 90 cm cutting area, depending on the complexity of the cuts and cutting time. The exact cost is determined after you submit your file and info, as we’ll use our software to run a simulation and estimate the running time of the laser. Larger projects / getting more pieces cut will reduce the cost per unit, making it more economical for you.
